Opera Chic & Grazia.it: Les contes d'Hoffmann at La Scala Reviewed

Orgies & deus ex machina -- it's Robert Carsen as we know and love him. Canada's l'enfant terrible reissued his y2k Les Contes d'Hoffmann from Opéra national de Paris for Milan's Teatro alla Scala. Offenbach's fantasy premiered on Sunday night to nice success, embraced equally by Marko Letonja's Mozartean conducting of a soundtrack that's often too bombastic.
