Sisqó never rapped about the BBC Proms but there's still a theme song in there somewhere for Britain's come-one-come-all classical music festival that opened last night at the Royal Albert Hall with sea-vocative Britten and Vaughan Williams' massive Sea Symphony under Finnish conductor Sakari Oramo.
Spanning two months of nonstop music and events, the Proms 88 concerts includes a summer-weight weave of Wagner's Ring Cycle under Barenboim, the concert-form cast plucked from Teatro alla Scala's Cassiers' staging in Milan last month. BBC Radio 3 is on streaming duty through the Last Night on September 7 with Joyce DiDonato under Marin Alsop.
