Milan's mayor Pisapia announced today at the conclusion of a La Scala board meeting that the next director of Salzburg Festival will be Alexander Pereira, taking over from Stéphane Lissner in 2015 (outbound to Paris Opera in that fall), unanimously elected by the CDA.
Criteria were strict for the cash-strapped Milanese opera house, including an incoming intendant with fund raising experience and one that would cost at least 25% cheaper than Lissner's current salary, about 350k euros.
The 65-year-old Austrian will fit right in with his 25-year-old Brasilian wife Daniela Weisser De Sosa, on her second marriage, who swapped posing for erotic mags for fashion studies in Milan. A match made in heaven.
