LA TEBALDI Official PROMO - 'Renata' Section
A voice that launched a thousand fists -- loggionisti fists -- as she tore up La Scala's stage in the early 1950s. We affectionately call her La Tebalda, the high, wide & handsome Italian soprano who towered over tenors and sang Verdi, Bellini, Puccini and Rossini in clarion, gorgeous voice (with crystal-clear pronunciation) and sashayed backstage with a beloved poodle tucked under her arm.
Her legacy already includes a foundation and a competition, and this summer, at Villa Pallavicino's converted stables on Verdi's home turf, Busseto, she'll be further immortalized with a museum.
If you can't get to Busseto, you can get to the iPad app, which highlights Tebaldi's most famous arias, operas, over 400 photos from her daily life and press releases from the '40s to the '70s.
