Last year, the Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra robustly chaperoned his musicians through two international tours, one California tour and sixteen weeks of concerts.
But 2013 begins on a downtick for Riccardo Muti, who just withdrew from a two-week CSO Asia tour, weakened by flu. While seeking treatment, Muti's doctors additionally discovered a hernia that requires immediate intervention.
The tour, which kicks off on January 25 in Taiwan, consists of nine concerts across six cities. Lorin Maazel slips into Muti's frac. We wish the Maestro a quick recovery and look forward to seeing him in April for his next CSO appointments.
