Domingo as Rigoletto on location in Mantua, September 4 and 5, Live on Italian TV

Tenor/baritone/conductor/administrator Placido Domingo (check out Opera Chic's first look at his forthcoming LA Opera "Il Postino"), more and more unsinkable, will be Rigoletto in Mantua in a production "on location" (Palazzo Ducale and others) of the Verdi opera that will be broadcast live by Italian TV channel RAI Uno on September 4 and 5. Zubin Mehta will conduct Orchestra sinfonica della Rai, legendary DP Vittorio Storaro (Apocalypse Now, The Conformist, The Last Emperor, among many) will be the cinematographer, and Marco Bellocchio will direct.

Vittorio Grigolo will be the Duke, Olga Peretyatko will be Gilda.

The production is inspired by the old "Tosca" filmed using the real Rome locations, with Domingo and Kabaivanska. 

In 2011, RAI will also broadcast another big production: a "Cenerentola" live from the Reggia Sabauda in
Stupinigi, to be directed by Luca Ronconi.
