The Metropolitan Opera has just announced that Natalie Dessay will not be singing in the first six performances of the Met's new production of French composer Ambroise Thomas' Hamlet in the role of Ophélie as scheduled, and the last two are still to be announced.
German soprano Marlis Petersen will sing Ophélie instead (she sang the role in Düsseldorf in 2006 as was scheduled to sing it anyway at the Met on April 9).
We wish La Dessay a speedy recovery!
