Opera Chic, no stranger to Milan's bright & clean Alexander McQueen store on Via Pietro Verri, had stocked-upon the British designer's iconic skull scarves during Milan's post-Xmas shopping assault. His scarves are why OC loves McQueen: a pragmatist's approach to romance and feminity, his designs are transcendent and feminine without using obvious froth or frill, where one feels powerful yet delicate...like his bad-a$$ skulls printed on the softest, most ethereal silks.
This past Thursday, when one of fashion's most imaginative designers passed away, we're mourning not only his genius, but the absence of his unique, creative influence to fashion that will be forever gone.
Milan's McQueen store responded to his passing by placing three glass vases of white lilies in the front windows, the sweet perfume filling the store. Grey cards written in English announced:
"On behalf of Lee McQueen's family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand passed away.
Lee's family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media and the public will respect this."
