After giving Israel the kind of praise that made him so beloved there -- "I am not equating Israel with the Nazis" -- Palestinian conductor Daniel Barenboim, at lunch with the Financial Times, found the time to explain that his rap-loving son (the other is a violinist) thinks classical music kind of sucks but he loves his dad anyway.
And Barenboim père even sent a shoutout to his late wife, Jacqueline Du Pré (Barenboim's sons are from his second marriage):
I’m rather touched by the love [people feel] for the memory Jackie has
left. Musically, she is still present. The other day the Divan was
rehearsing Liszt’s Les Préludes, and I wasn’t satisfied with
the way the cellos were playing the lyrical melody after the
introduction. Almost subconsciously, I was imagining how she would play
it.
