While RAI's taxpayer-subsidized government-run TV channels were busy with the usual horrible pap yesterday morning, more serious-minded European channels chose to broadcast live from San Carlo in Naples -- probably the world's most stunningly beautiful opera house -- the concert that reunited the Berliner Philharmoniker with Riccardo Muti after 17 years (Muti was a frequent guest during Karajan's tenure, then the collaboration all stopped under Abbado's years in Berlin & during Muti's final years at la Scala, now the partnership will resume).
Check out part of the program -- La Forza del Destino's overture -- below (the rest of concert had Martucci's and Schubert's music).
And after the jump, the excitable, very Southern reactions of the Neapolitan crowd as soon as Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi got out of the opera house, after the concert.
