Plácido Domingo's 15-year-old, worldwide opera competition, Operalia, has announced this year's winners. Operalia is Domingo's annual, international opera competition, pitting 40 finalists, aged 18 - 30 years old, in a grueling opera-singing contest. This year, the singing tournée was held in Canada at the Grand Théâtre de Québec from September 29-24.
The best and brightest young finalists in the opera world are given free round-trip tickets and accommodations by Placidone's organization, as well as a hefty prize: First prize for best female and male singers get $30K USD each. Past year winners include José Cura, Erwin Schrott, Joyce DiDonato, Rolando Villazon, Giuseppe Filianotti, and Ailyn Perez. Congrats to all the winners!
