Composer/conductor/New York City resident Jonathan Sheffer shared WORDS with NYSocial Diary -- and an interview ensued. Even if you don't care for ~big ideas~, Sheffer shows off his prized 4-story West Village brownstone via loads of photos [only a few above & below] and we're checking the ingredients before we overdose on the cool.
Sheffer honed his skillz under the guidance of Lenny Bernstein, and went on to found the Eos Orchestra in 1995 (tho it collapsed in 2004). He is currently the Artistic Director of Red {an orchestra}, an organization devoted to reviving and redefining classical musical programming.
In the interview, he speaks about the decline of classical music in mainstream culture, technology granting new accessibility to music, and scoring music for movies ("You’re not supposed to tell the viewer what to think, because music is so powerful that it can be too much, it becomes like propaganda.")
If his West Village digs don't impress you, czech out his East Hampton playhouse!
