Our unsinkable Franco Zeffirelli will be honored 2nite @ The Metropolitan Opera Guild’s annual luncheon (yay for rubber chickenZ at teh Waldorf Astoria). The Guild’s 73rd annual luncheon honors Frengo for his monster career at the Met (he debuted in 1964 with a production of Falstaff, not-yet-mothballed, and back in the day conducted by Lenny -- o tempora o mores).
Angela Gheorghiu will sing (thank goodness for microphones), Jeremy Irons will show off his accent (and, if you're all good and ask nicely, will do a Hans Von Bulow impersonation); also a video appraisals of Zeffirelli’s life ("Being Franco Zeffirelli", directed by Spike Jonze, j/k) and work and tributes from other stars will be projected.
Among the "stars" expected to show up to cheer Frengo's career: Lucine Amara, Fanny Ardant, Justino Díaz, Rosalind Elias, Marcello Giordani, Olivia Hussey, Cornell MacNeil, Eva Marton, Ian McShane, Aprile Millo, Sherrill Milnes, Patricia Racette, Regina Resnik, Ricky Schroder, Martin Sherman, Lois Smith, Richard Stilwell, Sada Thompson, Leonard Whiting, and Michael York.
