In addition to the comprehensive music stores that litter Vienna's Kärntnerstrasse (like the dizzying EMI store) and the Ringstrasse, we kicked around the miniature Wiener Philharmoniker store that tempted with exclusive Wiener recordings. We had tried to visit during our first trip to Vienna last year, but they were closed for inventory or something. We <3 it because they even have their own Walk of Fame star smack in front of the store. Let's hope Walmart doesn't buy out the property one day.
In addition to CDs and DVDs, a smattering of Wiener Philharmoniker souvenirs becon. However, at €50 (USD $70), we balked at the purchase of an exclusive WP optical mouse. I mean, it's all sorts of rad, but dang...optical is kinda jumpy, and you can get one neways for 30 bucks.
But no joke. I'd be big pimpin with that optical mouse. true dat. after some kickball in the park, i'd pull off my leggings and oversized thrift store t-shirt, crack open a PBR, pop in some Decemberists, stream the screener of The Darjeeling Limited, and fire-up the Wiener optical mouse. Cuz im twee like dat.
Anyway OC could not resist and did buy a box of Clemens Krauss's throat lozenges because the weather was chilly, a Wilhelm Furtwaengler beanie hat for her little cousin, Karajan's penguin pajamas for her dad, but she could not bring herself to buy one of those creepy Hans Knappertbusch rubber mask/a$$chaps combos.
