At Opera Chic Headquarters we often play Das Lied Von Der Erde -- mostly, obviously, the mono Walter/Ferrier version -- but we sometimes blast Walter's stereo version, not nearly as good because Ferrier does not sing in it. But we always enjoy Ernst Haefliger's tenor voice in it, and we were saddened to read that Herr Haefliger passed away last Saturday, aged 87.
Haefliger's voice is also part of Ferenc Fricsay's otherworldly Fidelio, another OperaChic favorite.
