(A picture of the now-famous Flórez bis during A mes amis at Teatro alla Scala's Tuesday, February 20, 2007 production of La Fille du Régiment. Flórez is that washed-out thing in the center with the red vest. Click for bigger.)
Opera Chic has just awoken from a dream: at this point, we all know about the historic bis that Juan Diego Flórez took earlier tonight during La Fille du Régiment at Teatro alla Scala. However, OC actually awoke from her dream because this production -- aside from the charisma and vocal perkiness of Juan Diego Flórez and headiness of Désirée Rancatore’s bel canto -- was pretty lame. *yawns*.
With Yves Abel's lackluster conducting + staid, old-skool Zeffirelli faux-bucolic + Crivelli's hammy, predictable staging, this performance = teh sleepies.
::Coming up l8r or tomorrow::
Pictures of the 5lb program, the anti-Lissner screeds hurled by protesters from Galleria I during the curtain call, a video clip, and a sound clip of the entire A mes amis + bis. Also: flubbing of recitative. Also: more pictures.
(And no worries for those who weren't there: Opera Chic saw at least three people in her section recording the performance on not-so-discreet mp3 players. What’s up Opera Share?)
Oh, and btw: Flórez has much nicer legs than Rancatore.
