Opera Chic's favorite Finnish conductor will be selling his soul to Steve Jobs next month, by appearing on February 15 at the Third Street Promenade Santa Monica (USA) Apple Store.
Aside from stocking-up on all the free Apple swag, Salonen will be discussing with fellow neckbeards the upcoming debut of his work, Helix, which was commissioned by Salonen's bff4e&e Valery Gergiev and the Solti/Gergiev World Orchestra for Peace, which will premiere at the end of March 2007 at the LA Walt Disney Concert Hall. The Santa Monica release reads:
"Live at the Apple Store: Esa-Pekka Salonen, Helix Preview."
"An award-winning composer and Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Esa-Pekka Salonen discusses and presents a sneak peek at his new work, Helix, composed on a Mac. Helix makes its U.S. premiere in March at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and will also be released as part of the iTunes DG Concerts series. February 15, 7:00 p.m."
Salonen says that he is hip to the phenomenon of downloading music via iTunes, which you can read about in this excellent Guardian article on the conductor.
GOD! SOO00ooo unfair! All we get in the SoHo store is freaking Ari Hest (WHO?) and Brett Dennen (WHAT?). What the flip, Kip?
