Although Alagna had quite demonstratively said N3VAR AGAIN AT LA SCALA ("I shall never come back to La Scala") to the press (and then firmly back-pedaled), before egregiously volunteered the same denouncement of his wife, the latest scoop is that Gheorghiu is not quite as keen to cancel her upcoming La Traviata that is scheduled for this July, 2007..
Opera Chic has been privy to a bit of inside gossip, which may render a chasm in the Alagna family. After Alagna threatened immediately to pull-out of his Manon Lescaut in 2008 at Teatro alla Scala, he went onto say that his wife, "is thinking of canceling her commitment for La Traviata here in July 2007." World is that Gheorghiu knows that her Violetta is top-notch, knows that up until this event happened with her husband, she was quite liked by the Teatro alla Scala audience (I saw her at the Teatro alla Scala recital on April 3, 2006, and although the singing was mediocre, the audience here loves her), and Gheorghiu does not so willingly want to give-up her almost insured peg at success.
