Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi announced that he'll be leaving his current position as Music Director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in May 2011.
Part of a legacy that including Thomas Schippers & Leopold Stokowski, the CSO is the fifth oldest orchestra in the USA, having championed the USA premiers of Mahler's 3rd & 5th symphonies.
Järvi's been serving as MD of the CSO since September 2001, and he leaves on amicable terms. Järvi already leads two orchestras in Germany (he's the Artistic Director of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie in Bremen and Director of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony) and he'll also be leading the Orchestre de Paris in 2011.
The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra needs to find themselves a new music director!
