Daniel Harding and Janine Jansen in conversation with moderator Sarah Willis, as part of the Berliner Philharmoniker's podcasts. The duo was at Berlin's Philharmonie a few weeks ago for three concerts of Bartók, Britten, and Strauss.
In 2005 when hawt Dutch violinist Janine Jansen released a recording of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, it became one of the top 20 downloaded albums as well as the top selling digital classical album of the year. Capitalizing on the success of digital downloading (she recently participated in a live, all-Bach recording available exclusively for download), last month she released a new recording of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, which exists solely as a digital album.
In the performance with Daniel Harding and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the lyrical work from 1878 stands the test of time; we're all for the digital revolution and reaching out the online audiences, but what exactly do you bring to a meet & greet autograph session? A USB key?
Whatevs; in the video below, Janine flaunts her violin, her really excellent, lightly & charmingly accented English -- and Daniel Harding flaunts some ripped jeans.
