Sveriges Riksbank, Sweden's central bank, honors Swedish soprano Birgit Nilsson in money form. The late diva will be immortalized on the bank's overhaul of banknotes, a new red, 500 krona with an idyllic background of Skåne (one of the southernmost provinces of Sweden where she spent her childhood, retirement, and where she passed away).
Nilsson will be honored with fellow Swedish nationals Astrid Lindgren, Evert Taube, Greta Garbo, Ingmar Bergman, and Dag Hammarskjöld. The notes will be introduced in 2014/15.
