Katia Ricciarelli, who recently gave us her magic Lady Gaga impression, cooked last night on Italian TV channel LA7 and shared her favorite recipes, polenta with mushrooms among them.
The other guests with Queen Ricciarelli? Former Italian member of Parliament, Vladimir Luxuria, Italy's first transgender M.P. and TV personality Alba Parietti -- not trans, fyi. Wanna watch the whole show? Click here.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if she develops some kind of an Italian TV show of her own in Italy. She's very well known there and she's always guesting on Italian talk shows. I happened to catch one of her stints on RAI recently, and the audience gave her a tremendous ovation. I don't understand Italian, but she had the audience in stitches with her gestures and comedic delivery. She struck me as kind of a cross between Beatrice Arthur and Carol Channing. Her comedic talents were very obvious, and the audience loved her.

What is that red stuff in Ricciarelli's hair ? Glitter ? You only see it in close-up so maybe it's some artifact in the video. I am also disappointed to see that once again a natural beauty has had extensive & terrible work done on her face (I'm talking about you, Alba Parietti.) Seen in profile, she looks like she's wearing a pair of those wax lips you used to be able to buy at penny candy counters
( http://www.nostalgiccandy.com/waxlips.aspx ). And is the host making a sly pun introducing Luxuria as "regina delle orecchiette" ? "Orecchione" is slang for a gay male, so its opposite, the diminutive "orecchietta" could be taken as slang for an M to F transgender.
Style considerations aside, watching this made me hungry-- my personal hallmark of a good cooking show. Thanks to the fuso orario, I watched just before dinner time, so I could easily remedy the situation.
2011 is already an hour old in Italy. A belated "Buon Anno" to O.C. & a Happy New Year to all!
