Gewandhaus zu Leipzig © Gert Mothes
Bearded Italian jazzerific pianist Stefano Bollani tag-teamed with fellow-bearded Italian maestro Riccardo Chailly in Germany for a concert of George Gershwin's swingiest hits. Leipzig's Gewandhausorchester spun the American soundtrack live from Leipzig's acoustically popping concert hall: Rhapsody in Blue, Catfish Row Symphony Suite, Concerto in F, and the rarely performed Rialto Ripples. The CD drops in two weeks (in Italy) -- you'd better start growing your beards now if you want to keep up.
The album cover is hysterical. They look like they're having so much fun!

LOL I would buy that album just for the cover. And for the maniacal look on Chailly's face.

Bollani is a jazz man, interesting for Chailly to work with a different artist... Gershwin is Gershwin, fun fun fun!

Love Bollani's jazzy shoes. He looks like some kind of scary puppet!

Looks like fun. And in the picture in which Bollani is half sitting, half leaning against the desk, holding a baton, please note the large, framed picture of Furtwangler on the wall, seemingly looking (askance?) at both Bollani & Chailly. Priceless.
