Amoeba is the only chain left as far as I know. If your are not particularly knowledgable about what you want (I am referring to classical music, not just opera) I can't imagine that you are going to be somewhat adrift. That may have changed with the closure of Tower and Virgin--I hope it has. In Pasadena we have what must be a relic of the past--a stand alone independent "record" store!

Seriously if you've never been to Amoeba, you are missing out. It's incredible.
