Really goofy! In the opening scene when dancers could be unleashed to make wavy movements--none on stage. Then we have a later part when dancers are not needed and they are hanging around a singer's neck! What the heck! Empty overall concept--suitable for a provincial house.

Those maidens appear to be hanging on his every word. Oh, Madeline Kahn, what you could have done with this!

Dead tenors - sadly it was one of the dullest Rheingold's I've ever heard. DB's conducting was flabby and uninteresting. Not a good start to a cycle: either visually or musically. Yes Pape was very good and shows signs of becoming the Wotan of today but please under another conductor.

Pape didn't do it for me. This is too much for him... and it's "only" Rheingold!

Hahaha! the frog and dragon concepts were the worst I have ever seen. (At least the dancers could have been nekkid for a cheap thrill.) LOL. That choreographer really has limited talent/imagination, e. g. the movement for the ascent from Nibelheim. I'm surprised the Scala audience put up with--at least whoever is in charge of the Scala ballet. They should have SOS'd Forsythe, at least.

The clinging maidens make the blocking too claustrophobic. I don't like it.
