Epic. Alagna has been kicked so many times, but he keeps his head up! Love him or hate him, you have to compliment him for his enthusiasm.

Is?
Is that?
Is that -- a GODFATHER APRON?

How fun! I would have enjoyed being the dinner guest for that meal...

Amazing!

ROFL! Padrino di cuccina Roberto. He just doesn't seem to care what people will throw at him and is having a lot of fun. And no singing sharp either. Love it!

Yummy in so many ways :)

I think Roberto should put together a DVD that would feature more of Mamma Mia type music and Alagna! Love it!

Is this the traditional text, or can someone provide a short synopsis translation? He is a good sport and just so darn likable! I daresay he can pull off crossover better than most, especially when he makes live appearances on TV.

Award this wonderful man a Lava Lamp. (LAVA=life After Vampire Ax*!*a)
Posted by: El Cajon | June 29, 2010 at 05:47 PM
He looks like he's having a great time, and I admire him A LOT. He's survived all the garbage that's been thrown at him, and he's obviously got a great sense of humor. I saw an OC video where he sings a duet with someone (I forget who) in French, and it's also a doozy. He's so comfortable with both French and Italian that both just roll off his tongue. I truly admire the guy, and La Scala be damned! Robert Alagna is a survivor!!!!!!

I loved watching every second of this video! Bravo, Roberto!!! What an entertainer!
Thanks for posting this, OC! You rock!

P.S. -- Not only is that a "Godfather" apron (Marlon Brando's Don Corleone), but the song he's singing is the same song sung in "Godfather" at Connie's wedding in the beginning of the film. However, I think in the film, they interpolated some raunchy Italian lyrics. Every time I hear this song, I think of "Godfather"

Now this is nice!
Bravo Roberto!

I just love it as well.It is a very funny Napolitan song and he has soooo much fun doing it and me seeing it and listen to him. Wish I could have had that dinner with him.

Ahahahahahaha I love Roberto.

Junebug: It´s a well known song from first Godfather movie written by Paolo Citarella, I think it´s called "C'e la luna mezzo mare" (http://www.accardiweb.com/grandpa/lyrics.htm#luna). The text is kind of... spicy? :-) - http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080710141055AAiCO3b
I´m not sure if this song was released on Alagna´s Sicilian album (http://www.amazon.com/Sicilian-Roberto-Alagna/dp/B001MRMRRE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1277833973&sr=8-1)

Roberto NEEDS to get on crossover NOW! He's so comfortable with the camera and making fun of himself. Since his La Scala meltdown (that I followed with great excitement on your blog) it's been going through a difficult transition, but he's unflappable!

Very good! This man is talented.
Why not a parallel career as a comedian?

I want that recipe!!!

How ironic are our positive comments compared to what was said about Villazon doing almost the same thing.
Have to admit I'm liking Alagna a lot these days, something I never expected to do. There was too much schadenfreude in the air previously to pay attention to his merits.

I didn't find this amusing. Why do some singers or personalities think that they need to humor us? I am all for people having a grand old time but must they air their dirty laundry? Me thinks this sort of thing is inherently infantile and should remain private at home, to be shared with family and friends. But the world doesn't really need to see or hear these people making donkeys of themselves. Call me a stick-in-the-mud, go ahead.
Posted by: Marshie | June 30, 2010 at 12:45 AM
Dude. I now have that song permanently welded into my head. Not that that's so bad!
So, Roberto, did you cook enough for everyone, hmmm?
Posted by: StellaNasca | June 30, 2010 at 01:00 AM
Man, I'd definitely be singing like that all of the time if La Draculette were no longer absorbing my lifeblood.

I'm not a big fan, but this video and his singing were very enjoyable--better than R. V.'s "La Cucaracha" and R. F.'s "Endlessly." A happy personality shone through and that is always enjoyable. (I have no idea what he is cooking though! The pasta looked done and the veggies looked raw. I guess the vino was O. K. Young people play the accordion still?)

I'll never forget after all the bad press, etc., hearing his performance from the MET on the radio New Year's eve while buying champagne; I couldn't believe how wonderful it was, on the RADIO in the CAR! I was never a fan before that.
The accordian player is HOT!

I would second the post by Lily. Love this video; everythning about it shows what a real artist can do.

Marshie:
You've written some very instructive and interesting blogs on this site before, but here I must disagree with you. What kind of "dirty laundry"? The video is extremely well executed, Alagna's charismatic personality is ideal for this "show biz" kind of thing, and his multitudes of fans will enjoy it. In fact, I'd say that with this little video, he will probably garner even MORE fans.
Opera singers are sometimes international celebrities: Lauritz Melchior was known to be a real cut-up off stage (he and Helen Traubel used to skip rehearsals at the Met to go see the Yankees at Yankee Stadium); Anna Moffo used to sing and dance on the Dean Martin Show ; Beverly Sills appeared with Carol Burnett; Marilyn Horne used to crack up Johnny Carson with her stories (and beeped-out language); and lastly, virtually EVERY movement Maria Callas (certainly the most flamboyant of them all) ever made was photographed (not to mention the coverage in the National Enquirer!); and finally, Luciano Pavarotti, who OVERDID it to the point where he became a Dumbo the Elephant Media Buffoon by singing with Rap Singers and peeling and eating apples on the stage during a Chicago concert version of "Otello" in 1990.
With the sole exception of Pavarotti, I wish we had artists with the personalities of those I've mentioned above. Mr. Alagna has done nothing improper, inappropriate, or even demeaning. He's letting his sunny personality shine through. He's probably a much happier man since La Gheorghiu shipped herself out of his life.

Really, Roberto? An induction cooktop? Pfooey.

I think the separation has been good for both of them!
Posted by: Linda Smith | June 30, 2010 at 08:16 PM
That was adorable! I've watched it more than 5 times, and I still haven't worn it out.
I'm now officially a fan!

The accordion player is Vincent Pierani(French)who has played with a cellist named Francois Salque.
Posted by: Greg Slater | July 11, 2010 at 05:20 AM
Lord, how can you not love this guy???!!! so much life, verve, esprit, originality, and yet he commands his stage with the apblomb appropriate to the heir to Pavarotti........
We can't wait to have back in NYC this fall..........

Roberto Alagna, you are the greatest living tenor that the world has today! I was living in Taormina for the past two years and when I saw and heard this video, I cried with tears of joy and passion for Sicily and the people.

Never quite understood the hate against him - some foolish apperances doesn't make his voice "horrible"
But there is so much more to this video than just his singing - it's kind of artsy in a folkish way! As for the recording; the airpieces, small errors and sound makes me wonder if they actually play "together" although on different locations?
Posted by: Eddie | August 06, 2010 at 01:38 PM
Yes, Yes! The video is wonderful!
Roberto Alagna is the excellent singer and actor. His opera performances are magnificient! I found out Alagna recently and I am happy to listen this voice with that crystal ring.
Alagna is the sun person at all!
I am the great grandmother already and I can say thus:
Dear Boy! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!
