The Los Angeles Times reports sad news:
Ernest Fleischmann, the impresario who dominated the Los Angeles Philharmonic for nearly 30 years as it was transformed into one of the top orchestras in the country, has died. He was 85.
An extraordinary life; and even if Fleischmann's only accomplishment were the successful wooing of Carlo Maria Giulini to lead the LA Phil -- it is not, far from it -- his career would amount to an astonishing success anyway, just for that.
After all, Ernest ran the show.
