Europe-based American conductor John Axelrod always mixes it up, from Hollywood in Vienna to his past Summer tour with Herbie Handcock and Lang (x2).
Now the Music Director of Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire tells Deutsche Welle that he's planning on organizing a rave as a post-symphony event, to follow a world premiere piece by Sergei Prokofiev's grandson, Gabriel, a London-based ~classical DJ~ who melds classical music with beats.
"And we'll also do a world premiere of a piece by Sergei Prokofiev's grandson, Gabriel Prokofiev. He is a very unique composer who combines electronica with orchestral instruments and compositions. So, his piece is essentially a variation on the themes of "An die Freude" from the Ninth Symphony for a DJ and an orchestra.
At the end of the concert, we'll open the concert hall into a giant rave for the young people of Nantes to enjoy an experience that they might not otherwise have with an orchestra."
Classical riot meets classical rave. Current status: Awesomer!
Aaack! That's Herbie HANcock, not HANDcock! That's the sort of typo that suggests an editorial comment on the man's . . . er, masturbatory proclivities. Great musician, regardless of his, erm, propensities . . .

Who has the energy and endurance to begin a rave after a full symphony concert? Not to be rude, but I can only think of sitting down to a nice dinner.

I'd rave over Gabriel P anyday, if he's the way he looks in that picture! Yummy...
