Rupert Christiansen in the Daily Telegraph:
"Opera Chic, the sharpest blog in the business, has just been commissioned to write a regular column in the fashion magazine W. This week gimlet-eyed OC names the best-dressed conductors - a very short list which includes Daniel Harding, Fabio Luisi and Esa-Pekka Salonen, whose wardrobe secrets OC seems to be privy to. This is merely the higher gossip. Offstage, it doesn’t matter what a performer wears; onstage, however, it regrettably does. We are meant to go to a concert to listen rather than look, and ideally how musicians are clothed should have no bearing on the sound they make."
You go! Opera Chic keeps doing her thing with style and finesse. Good for you, darling!

"A blinging bosomy Katherine Jenkins-Girls Aloud style, adopted by Anna Netrebko at her recent Royal Festival Hall concert"
LOL "adopted"
But, it's still more about the voice, right? RIGHT? Otherwise I might have to change my fandom to piano, or something...

Great coverage, but I don't recall O.C. mentioning she imbibes gimlets. As I recall, her beverages of choice are more elegantly italiante.

I totally agree with you, frufruJ. This kind of so-called "high gossip" is of the same nature as tabloid of pop stars. If opera fans want to maintain their "righteous" attitude towards RV's foolish choice, we should all have some self control too--keeping our private thoughts and curiosity in check at times, if not all the time. Enough already!

OC, you keep writing, you are the best. Your natural instincts lead you into unique areas. You do a great job keeping the opera and music news interesting and lively. Love it!

Honey, you deserve major kudos ! Sooner of later newspapers are going to realize there's no difference at all between print journalism and online journalism. It doesn't matter whether the formats a blog, a site or a piece of paper. What counts is the content!

I think it's all in a good spirit. Nerds such as Opera Chic are not known for keeping their interests just to one subject.
And if people are talking about what artists are wearing, why the heck can't you write about it?
Secondly; if I wrote about opera singers in a work-out magazine, I wouldn't write primarily about their idea about music and vocal characterization, I would write about how they work their bodies and how they think and prepare physically and mentally, and how they train and build up their technical skill.. because that's what the readers buy the magazine for, and that's the vehicle to "sell" the art of Opera.
