The NYC-born ~Diva on the Verge~ was in France yesterday for an intimate recital at the 35th Deauville Film Festival's opening ceremony. Julia Migenes starred in the 1984 film adaption of Bizet's Carmen, directed by Francesco Rosi, sharing the screen with Plácido Domingo (Don Jose) & Ruggero Raimondi (Escamillo). Madame must have a pure love of entertaining because she certainly didn't go to Deauville for their sun-drenched beaches.

She was my childhood idol!

Not so intimate that it did not require a microphone...

I...kind of don't know what to make of her. As a singer, I'm not a huge fan. But her stage presence is mesmerizing, honestly. You can't look away.

A strange career. Deputizing for Stratas in the telecast of Lulu she surely should have been utilized at the Met. Did she ever sing there again? She also doesn't appear to have had a large career in Europe. A few CD's and the rest silence

Her Carmen movie with Domingo was quite good but it looks like she's made several trips to Durham, N.C. in recent years. Not as many as Joan Rivers, but a few....

Her Diva on The Verge show is a scream, and she just did a very respectable evening of Shubert songs in LA. A magnetic stage presence.

I saw her twice at Covent Garden as Massenet's Manon. In the St Sulpice Scene she almost melted the scenery off the stage (and this was opposite Shicoff)- I can still recall it vividly. I agree with Manou's comment above that her stage prescence was electric whilst her vocal technique (or lack thereof) could be irritating.
