Oh dear I'm sure the good Doctor will tell us all that he is under-appreciated, that no one other than he knows how things should be done, how he will never direct another opera etc etc etc.
But in all fairness I should give me the benefit of the doubt and listen before I carp.

and of course that should have read: give him the benefit of the doubt. And please god he doesn't bring up the Bartoli-Figaro thing - that was year's ago.

I thought Miller ran rings around Lebrecht. But then even I could do that.

Thanks a lot for leading us to the Miller interview. I thought it was marvelous and fascinating. He's a perfect example of a contemporary cultivated and gifted intellectual...the kind that Cambridge produces, or at least used to produce. I only wish he might have been persuaded to talk more specifically about some of his opera experiences, with names if possible.

Miller's interview was worth it just for his remark about ditsy little American girls who talk in "chipmunk voices." Bingo. He hit the target perfectly. They seem to be everywhere and are annoying beyond description.
