Sunday, April 5, 2009, American soprano Kathleen Battle will return to NYC's Carnegie Hall for a solo recital. And no, ~OC~ will never stop paying homage to the 2007 VMA Britney Spears performance (see title & photo above). Like poor Ms. Spears, Kathy has also had her ups & downs in the industry, but resilient as ever, keeps cranking it out despite adversity.
This time, Ms. Battle will be singing a program of spirituals (ol' timey songs which were created by African slaves in the USA) inspired by the Underground Railroad, a 19th century network of escape routs and safe houses across the USA that ferreted Black slaves to Canada, Mexico & the American free states aided by abolitionists. Too bad she couldn't have coordinated this for Black History Month? "The Music of Struggle, Faith and Deliverance" will feature special guests which include some dudes on the piano, and a lady on the harp.
