El Cajon

This should be one of the first chapters in O.C.'s book. Damn she nails this stuff.

Turandoze

Like George Bernard Shaw could find God in Mozart's music, I find God in your writings. Gorgeous review, Opera Chic.

isabella

You are a superstar. I am so jealous of your opera travels. Great review, Opera Chic. I learned a thing or two. Or three or four!

Dino Sauro

Leporello has many times bigger applause than Don Giovanni, it happened last year in Salzburg Festival, Schrott in Leporello was better. Mozart loved Leporello, first thing you hear is this incredible aria!

furst

Agree with the previous posters. We actually had a question about a subject of some interest to us relative to this performance but don't want to distract from the magnificence of the entry.

Great, great stuff, OC.

Sandro

Is Zerlina the girl in the white dress? She's not just cute! She's gorgeous!

I'm glad you had a nice time at the opera despite the cold Alp air. You're my hero. Rather, heroine!

Sandy

Brilliant review, OC! It's always entertaining to watch you dismantle a bad performance, but I just love your effervescent delight in a winner. From now on, I'll always think of Da Ponte whacked and flying on caffeine, sugar and sex.

Donna Anna

Madamina,

You nail it every time, with striking clarity and exquisite phrasing. I'm glad there's Alex Ross but I'm truly grateful for OC. Evivva!!

Rock Me, Amadeus

I'm not a fan either of the slow renderings of Don Giovanni like the ones you mentioned in your post. I prefer Muti's quick read. Now that you've shared that Axelrod's is also fast, I'll scour my _ahem_ sources to see if a recording exists. Or we beg one of the big classical recording giants to commission it.

Willym

As always, insightful, thoughtful, witty and wise - and you made us all very envious and wishing we had been there to share.

Mille grazie

Your life is perfect, your reviews are perfect... yeah, you have it all. Thanks for sharing OC!!! Oh, are you planning to come to the MET muti/audi/prada Attila next year?

Marshie

And why would the invaluable OC waste her time, energies and monies on the horribly miscast Met Attilas? Miscast, that is, aside from Muti. You see, she and us are better off with getting a copy into our hot little hands of the famous and classic video from La Scala with Muti as well, not to mention the unparalelled Cheryl Studer as Odabella and Samuel Ramey in the title role. In fact, these same forces also recorded the work in the studio but with Neil Schicoff as Foresto. Keep this word in mind: CHIAROSCURO. Verdi's music sort of demands it. La Scala could deliver then. So could the singers. The Met? The singers? Extremely doubtful. So there.

Susan

I don't have time to read the entry right now, but I want to say how much I love the photos! I'll be back later. :)

Hal

A snark for Marshie: "...she and we..." not "she and us".
