Big props to Ronald Blum over at the Associated Press for being so kind as to namecheck OC in his story about the MET's troubles, happily surprising us:
Coming soon on the AP the words: "Mr. Keri-Lynn Wilson" instead of "Peter Gelb". Then OC's mission will be complete.
The screencap:
This is hopefully the best thing I will read all day. I now profess my undying love for you! All hail OC!

Opera Chic, if those opera companies knew any better, they'd snap you up in a second. Lucky for us, you're still here, though! Your resourcefulness never ceases to amaze me. Congrats for the AP citation!

It's fun watching these behemoths tremble and bend under the will of OC. First La Scala, now The Met. There's no stopping you! I can't wait to see who's next!

What a nice surprise to wake up to for an avid Opera Chic reader. Congrats on making the Associated Press. Keep on keeping on!

So wait - did Blum not ask you for a quote? I am happy to see your blog mentioned, but I want to know MORE! What's it take to get interviewed around here?

So that's all it takes to make Gelb talk? I basically only read your blog, OC, but I guess this story really got around. And quickly! Your words obviously have much influence in the classical world, and for that you deserve all the credit you get. Well done!

Dear OC, long time reader, first time poster. You rock! That is all.

If I know my girl OC any better than I already do (hey girl!), I swear you used a lyric from Rage Against the Machine. True? I'm proud to see you made the AP, but now you've sent a precedent, and there's no turning back! Make 'em shake!

Well, I for one think that regardless of the failing economy and financial hardship that is plaguing the U.S. (hence, the world), Gelb was overambitious in planning his first season. He slopped it on with a heavy hand, and the 2009-10 menu was already having a severe case of indigestion before we even feasted. All this excess is embarrassingly gratuitous. I'm glad Gelb is trimming the fat and tightening his belt.

Well, after reading all these comments, I want to also congratulate the cunning of our sly little fox-etta, OC. It was a huge thrill to read about your blog on one of my news feeds this morning.
However, I also have to agree with Jackie Lee Bouvier. Gelb had chosen for his first season a really disappointing, mundane, and frankly, insane roster. It was all over the place! He was going for the sure-fire success, choosing old time crowd pleasers and newer, modern stuff to bring in the novelty. Seriously: The kidz version of The Magic Flute again? That's what the smaller, provincial houses have to resort to. This is the Metropolitan, dammit! Why is Gelb lowering their expectations and standard operating procedures?
I'm glad they reorganized and are trying to make it slimmer and more concentrated. I can't wait to hear confirmation on the next cuts!
Remember, quality over quantity, guys.
