Metropolitan Opera's 125th Anniversary Season: Red Carpet Arrivals

Maybe it was the conflicted double-booking of Milan's fashion shows that kept the A-listers away from the Metropolitan Opera's annual Fall season opener, cuz as far as we could tell, this year was lacking in ~star power~. No designers like Stefano Pilati or jetset models like Naomi Campbell, no Anna Wintour, etc. Instead, a cheesy clique of tri-state news *personalities* filled-in the orchestra seats. Aside from the p33ps below, the opening night was also graced with appearances by Jane Fonda, John Lithgow, Blythe Danner, Yo-Yo Ma with his daughter Emily, Henry & Nancy Kissinger, and John Turturro.

Naturellement, here are the OC exclusive paparazzi shots of last night's festivities at Lincoln Center. Let's start with the d00d who dressed in homage to the Met's ^enhanced^ Swarovski chandeliers:

~*~ His name is Austin Scarlett, and apparently he's a fashion designer (who went crazy with the Bedazzler). Here he is in full glory. Bask in it, byotches!

~*~(below: the award for the most shameless & out-of-place skank/clinger-on award goes to Alex McCord & " husband" Simon van Kempen. GET OUT. Ugh, it's bad enough that Lauren Bush carries around that skanky burlap sack...stop jumping on the bandwagon.)

Too bad you missed a real picture of Rufus Wainwright from the Gala. The HD simulcast caught him in the background when Martha was showing off her latest champagne drink. Rufus was stunning in his grey tux with white trim.

Pics of Renee?

Burlap sack: No comment. Well, one comment - hopefully it gave her a rash so she won't think it's a good idea to ever wear that again.

Martha Stewart - Is it just me, or does her dress look like a drapery/tablecloth thing that she draped over her shoulders and pinned together with double-sided tape? How crafty of her! Oh and it also sweeps the floor, very handy if you've tracked something in on your designer shoes. (is she wearing shoes??)

Oh yeah I forgot to say, Chandelier guy looks like they wheeled him in from Madame Toussauds. Is he... alive?

I liked Faye; she has always been so feminine and natural!
Miss Sims seems to be looking for a husband in that white wedding-like dress. Ms Mirren does not look like herself in that ugly dress of very bad taste. Mrs Walters' earrings and handbag did not match her dress regarding the colours. Mrs McCord's blouse and skirt were the apotheosis of the unsuitable.
Renee must have been the star in every way
and the best dressed lady of the night.

Seriously, how much money do those last two give to the Met that they get this sort of treatment?

Austin Scarlett reminds me of Bjorn Andresen as Tadzio in Luchino Visconti's "Death in Venice".

Thanks for the great photos OC! Unfortunately I wasn't able to make the gala since I had to offer up some vocals early this morning, but I will say, there are a lot of familiar faces from last year's opening night! I was fortunate to have had close encounters (ie. < 5 feet away) with Austin Scarlett, Calvin Klein and Blythe Danner amongst others last year!

What's up with Parker Posey & that bag of hers?
That cr_p looks like a old leather bag with cotton ball the rabbit attached at the base.
PREG for Keanu WHO?

I hear they cut the supertitle about Violetta having SOLD all her JEWELS......did they replace it with "Violetta wins lottery"?????

OMG, it's the Diva Of The Future in the background of almost every single picture...

FYI, Austin Scarlett flunked out of Heidi Klum's "Project Runway"--maybe midway, but his style and uncompromising persona still rawked.

So whaddya think? IS Baba Walter's necklace paste or the real thing? And I wonder who she'll leave it to the MET. Glitter and be Gay is my motto. Guess she didn't invest with Madoff.
