The New York Philharmonic has put up a slide show of the upcoming performances of Lerner & Loewe’s Camelot musical. Among Broadway, theater, and opera stars, Nathan Gunn is slated to play Lancelot along with Gabriel Byrne's Arthur and Marin Mazzie's Guenevere.
It also stars Fran Drescher, Christopher Lloyd, and Stacy Keach (as Merlyn) in a semi-staged version with a full cast, costumes, and sets.
(The Gunnster does have big hands).
It opens on May 7 with five performances through May 10. It's a revival of the Broadway 1960s smash hit @ the Majestic Theater, which starred Richard Burton as King Arthur, Julie Andrews as Guenevere, Robert Goulet as Lancelot. Go here for the full Gunn experience.

Man, Gabriel Byrne was married to Ellen Barkin: Best Gig Ever. Gotta respect that.

Dear OC,
Gunn may have big hands (!) but he has a rather inexpressive face...give me Gabriel any day!!!

I saw Camelot the opening week Saturday matinee in Toronto - it was quite the cast as OC mentioned Burton, Andrews, Goulet plus Roddy McDowell, Robert Coote, Oliver Smith sets, Adrien costumes and Moss Hart directing. That matinee was so long it almost went into the evening performance - what's that old Bingism: Almost twice as long as Parsifal but not half as funny. And I met Goulet on the street - he was tall, built, handsome and boy could he sing a ballad.

Ok I just looked at some pictures of Goulet. Wow, what intense blue eyes! I'm sure he was fabu in this role.
I think the Gunnster (as we've called him in our house now for quite some time...) will do a fine job, big hands and all. Too bad the tickets are outrageously expensive! However... this will be broadcast live on PBS in the states on May 8 so we can compare eyes, glove size and anything else we want then. No doubt some parts will turn up on YouTube shortly after. ;) http://www.pbs.org/livefromlincolncenter/

Somewhere on the net, can't recall exactly where, I saw an interview of Gunn on the Stephen Colbert show. He did pretty well, though he didn't feed Colbert quite enough to make him rib cracking funny. He tried to tell the audience that opera is for the masses and other hard sells. But he got a good round of applause. Some little time was spent on Gunn's proclivity to remove his shirt. He said he did it because he couldn't make love to a soprano with it on!!! I do declare the things singers have to do to earn their living. Next thing we'll see JDF giving an interview in Speedos.
