Get Ur Fille On. Tonight.

As of tonight, after Milan last year, after the dress rehearsal the other day at the Met, we're kind of afraid that La Fille Du Regiment may start to sound a little old, despite the presence of la Nata and our sweet lamby prince. We'll see.
Anyway, it's crunch time, again; and Opera Chic is going, and you're not.
You can listen to the high C's live here, though.
But it's good to remember that it's not all about Juan Diego, after all.
Why?
Because "Marie is her, really".

Yep, he encored.

It was good, but not great during an evening when the house's manners became more rustic by the bar. My s/o saw the D.R. and said that N.D. was better last Friday. Her timing was ropey as hell, but the pairing of her voice and JDF's was terrific. Have to agree with your earlier comments about the mauling of the libretto, however. Bleah.
This encore malarky is getting old already, too.

No question about it....in bel canto tenor music, Juan Diego Florez is the Michael Jordan of opera. I mean no disrespect to Luciano Pavarotti, but not even he could approach Florez as Tonio, Elvino in "Sonnambula", Nemorino, etc. I am thrilled that a singer with such awesome gifts exists today.

Hey, OC, I love the picture of Guiletta Massina as a clown together with Natalie Dessay. That's great! And they do look quite alike in this instance.
