Like Three Godzillas, Only In Beijing (Tokyo's Safe)

Three of the world's most respected sopranos, Kiri Te Kanawa, Kathleen Battle and Angela Gheorghiu, are set to hit Beijing all at the same time.
One word to enteprising impresarios with a perfectly clean bill of cardiac health: Three Sopranos.
There's big money in that concept if you can avoid to have your still-beating heart ripped out of your chest by an extremely p-ed off diva.
Gifted performers? Absolutely. But "most respected" sopranos??? Te Kanawa, certainly. Battle's antics are well-documented and Gheorghiu isn't far behind.
I hope they deliver the vocal goods.

Gheorghiu will sing Lucia di Lammermoor? Lucia or Alisa? Poor popolo di Pekino...

Well...it didn't take long for U little Missy to print an item that would inflame me to no end....
Why just this past holiday season I was fuming briefly about Miss Te Kanawa. She of the BIG ideals about how QUALITY singing is above ALL else; that was just a cop out for an average nobody voice. Sort of the kind of career had by Miss Norman in Europe, where she did lots; just nothing to speak of or worth recalling.
Little Miss Nobody Soprano finally has a provincial house that is interested; reduced to singing in China..go big or go home.
Say what you will though about Miss Battle... freakin' difficult little b!t(h with an ego the size of Uranus, and a voice that had to miked with Bose speakers full tilt... But OH WHAT a VOICE.... One of the most beautiful sounds to touch the human spirit. For her I'd be 7 rows back..and little stage left any day of the week.
BTW HAPPY NEW YEAR OC!

One negative point in a person's career does not erase their talent, gifts or contributions to the world of opera. Kathleen Battle remains to be one of the world's fascinating musicians, still singing VERY WELL as she approaches 60 this year. SUNDAY, APRIL 13, 2008 at 2PM she will be presented in recital at Carnegie Hall by Columbia Artist Management, LLC.
BRAVA DIVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angela G is FAR out-classed in this group, whether as a musician, soprano, or PERSON - especially the latter. "respected" ??? ....humorous...
