Anna Netrebko Leads Male Critic To Publishing Embarrassing Valentine Under Own Byline, Part XXXVIII
The British are finally getting it. They've been rather cool and neutral to Netrebko's phenomenon. She is, and she will be remembered among the all-time greats, imperfection- if any- notwithstanding.

Wow, you really *can* type with just one hand....

Well, they have been neutral and cool because she hadn't really given us her "A" game at CG so far: only a (fine) Gilda 3 years ago, a role she's since abandoned, and a (smashing) Donna Anna last summer that was however marred by illness & cancellations. She and her admirers here (myself included) needed yesterday's triumph. And triumph it was: she was as close to perfection as she's ever been and the riotous standing ovation at the end showed that the audience thought so too. Brilliant. I'm delighted I'm going again during this run, and, mind you, I really dislike this production (I prefer modernised ones).
