Poor Giulini :-( :-(((
On a recent stop at the ginormous Los Angeles Virgin Megastore on Sunset Boulevard, a perusal of the Classical music section made Opera Chic take a ride on the lollercoaster --where she lolled and then cried...and then lolled again.
Oh noes! The team at Virign have a Republican agenda. GO TEAM RUDY! YAY 4 STUPID!!!
Good catch, OC!!!
Are u going back to check if they'd learn it here and fix the bug? If not, i can do that 4 u!
BTW, i did make it to Santa Fe to see Daphne+Platee. Last min flight so $$$ i went broke and had to sleep in car :(

Not to snipe, but Virgin has squat in its opera section; it now shares a wall with jazz, soul and other media. I tried to find a copy of Jenufa - in anticipation of LA Opera's production - and they had one copy of a production in English. I recently had a similar experience with Fidelio, not exactly an unfamiliar title. Well, I trotted to Ameba, and they had MILES of choices - so next time you're looking in LA, head east on Sunset...

omg Amoeba, it's just so cool -- even if Opera Chic is a light packer, she had to stuff more than a few vintage LPs in her Goyard luggage after ransacking Amoeba... but a post about _that_ is coming soon. but you're right, after the tragedy of the Tower going out of bidness (that cordoned off parking lot on the strip breaks our heart) the situation, esp in L.A., has gotten pretty bad. But then, OC's fave record store is and always will be Buscemi in her adoptive hometown

Ditto your Tower comment. Though always a bit grungy in there, the staff seemed to have familiarity with what they were selling, and there was always a selection. You know that the value of that Tower real estate must far outdistance its value -or anyone else's - as a long-term tenant...here's to a few more condos! For the size of Ameba, they have a classical staff who are helpful.

Super opera fan title goes to OC 4 her super effort blogging anywhere :) Mine was just addiction desperately need sth to quench the %-seasons-thirst. But Daphne was really cool with extra-ordinary great young singers in Daphne, Gaea n Leukippos. Apollo sucked, ringing moments alternated w strained ones(rpt from next show said he's much better). Platee, IMO, was v mixed. We've got good singing. Staging, however, ranged from v cute froggies to v busy clueless annoying acts that makes the worst SNL skit super funny. So noisy were the feet that u couldn't hear musik. Should have watched dvd instead.
Will def check out Buscemi next time in Mediolanum...
