I Replaced La Netrebka And I Forgot To Tell My Colorist

Bad_hair_2

The dark roots that befell Marina Poplavskaya (not pictured above), aka sick Anna Netrebko's replacement at the Covent Garden's Don Giovanni; the savagely hunky charms of Erwin Schrott; the kindness of the civilised opera house that is the Royal Opera House that allows bloggers to take pictures inside, unlike other less enlightened Italian theatres; and much more in Intermezzo's review of what happened last night.

^^^UpDATE^^^

Breaking News again from Intermezzo: Netrebko still sick, Poplavskaya gets another chance tomorrow; We hope she gets a visit from her colorist now.

thanks for the kindly mention OC! Breaking news - Pops will once again replace the ailing Trebs tomorrow - and this time it's a big screen broadcast, to be relayed around the UK. Could Pops ever have dreamed of such an incredible career break?

Could a more flaky role than Donna Anna exist?

The gentle natured and uber talented Miss Netrebko has better things to do in my opinion, even if it IS Gloriana Covent Garden.

Perhaps they could offer her something more worthy....oh I dunno...say Beatrice di Tenda?

I was there last night. Marina Poplavskaya's success didn't surprise me at all. She was mesmerising in the ROH's concert performance of La Juive last autumn.

OC, here's some... er... 'hawtness' for you...

I really don't see why Ana Maria Martinez seems to be turning up her nose at young Shrott in the photo. The rest of the audience was drooling ;-).

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
why so hot (or hawt, as some of you say) under the collar? Mozart and Da Ponte called their opera Don Giovanni not Donna Anna. I saw young Schrott as Leporello a few years back in the same production. If his Don is in the same mold, then he will be the star attraction of this production.
It's not rare for a singer to pull a sickie in their day job in order to perform; this leads me to suspect that Netrebko is moonlighting as a waitress somewhere else.

N.

somebody told me Roberto Alagna will chat on the internet very soon...
