For those of you who have yet to embark on that great European musical mecca, while in Vienna, we recommend a stop into the lavish lobby of Hotel Sacher Vienna (no, it's not like South Beach where they kick you out of the hotel's public spaces if you are not a guest.) Since 1876, Hotel Sacher Vienna has opened its doors to some of the most prominent figures of the opera and symphony world (not to mention world leaders and celebrities), and records the giddy moments of star-struck-dom in their lobby's hall of images behind 8x10 glossy, autographed headshots and candids. Hotel Sacher in Vienna boasts opera and symphonic stars such as Leonard Bernstein, Placido Domingo, Herbert Von Karajan, and the rest here). Everyone raves about the Sacher Cafe, but the real draw for music fans is browsing the colorful collages of musical history. Hundreds of photographs of guests line the hallway past reception. (and you only get one image from Vienna that miraculously remained on my laptop, as the rest are stashed away on my LaCie drives and ugh o noes laziness.)
Meanwhile, a few hours away, Hotel Sacher Salzburg (pictured above...and just as beautiful, but with a much, much lamer spa) on the Salzach River boasts its own collection of autographs and celebrities, however smaller (you must take into account the historical/geographical differences between the two hotels). Our favorite was the juxtaposition of the Dalai Lama and Riccardo Muti (below). One day, Opera Chic is like 100% sure, her framed 8x10 glossy will take-up residence on those revered walls of musical geek worship. Until then, i'll be busy updating my world wide web web-blog as a rising superstar on the internet tubes. ~t00dles~**
