Juan Diego Flórez: Off The Meat-Market
(Image of Flórez and Trappe, which was alerted to us from the genius behind Voce di Tenore.)
From Opera Chic reader Lucica comes the news that our Juan Diego Flórez is determined to marry his German sweetheart Julia Trappe next year. Perú's national media carried the story yesterday. For those unaware, Trappe looks like a cross between the young Florence Henderson and Nicole Ritchie. Always abreast of JDF news, website Voce di Tenore carries the story here.

The creator of website Voce di Tenore was kind enough to alert us to a few images of Flórez and his fiance.
:teh fapz0r: Trappe was all like THIS 0NE IZ MINE BACK 0FF F00LS.

She really is lovely. I saw her backstage at the Met Wednesday night and aside from being a stunning, petite, lithe young woman, she radiates a genuine warmth (maybe that's why she was carrying the full length mink--hardly necessary on the 60 degree plus evening). I believe Ms. Trappe is a soprano and has probably given up her career for the tenorissimo.

It's too bad I don't give a sh*t.
Yes, Florez is a good singer with great technique, but he doesn't EXCITE me.

He looks like my associate Rabbi. All he's missing is the yarmulke.

Well I'm very happy for JDF, he and his bride-to-be look very happy together, and if Donna Anna's impressions of her personality are accurate then JDF probably found the "right" one.

Before Julia he had another girl friend, Laura Giordano by name (I think). Evidently their parting was amicable since I have heard nothing to the contrary. She was also a singer and I suspect she simply didn't want to give up her career to be with him all the time, while Julia did. If anyone knows more, I'd be happy to hear it.

I have a tiny suspicion that the big wedding that is scheduled to take place next year in the Cathedral of Lima presided over by the Arhcbishop might just be dropped, quietly. In his last interview (December, 2007) he made some odd remarks for a happily married man. He said in effect that life is an adventure and you have no idea whom you might meet who will change your life in an instant and send it in an entirely different direction and that he was looking forward to the unexpected. He didn't need to say this and I find it an odd thing to say for a supposedly happily married man.
