ALAGNA RECEIVES LETTER-BOMB FROM LISSNER; BURNS HIS BRIDGES.
OPERA CHIC BREAKS NEWS TO BREAK ALL THE BREAKING NEWS THAT ALREADY BROKE!
Opera Chic has found-out that earlier this afternoon, Alagna received an official letter at his super luxury, five-star hotel suite in downtown Milan from Teatro alla Scala GM Stéphane Lissner, with a document serving as the official termination order of tenor Roberto Alagna from Teatro alla Scala.
However, not only is Alagna barred from the theater...It gets much worse: Lissner's termination package decreed that the Alagnas’ must now pay OUT-OF-POCKET for all expenses incurred during his past one-month stay at their hotel, one of Milan's most super-luxury-luxury pads. Teatro alla Scala refuses to pay for his room & board, meals, transportation, and all other expenses that he has racked-up this past month in Milan.
Opera Chic also knows that Alagna was very busy today...not cruising Corso Vittorio Emanuele II for Christmas shopping, but instead at the office of a high-profile lawyer here in Milan to discuss his options for his Teatro alla Scala lawsuit.
Radio Classica Milano is carrying this statement just made by Alagna, "FARO' CAUSA A LA SCALA" (Translation: I will sue La Scala)
The news just gets worse, as Alagna apparently went to Teatro alla Scala this afternoon to show-up for rehearsals, and was barred from entering. His official statement is just depressing, and at this point, Opera Chic just feels terrible for the tenor:
Alagna says,
“They have not allowed me to enter the theater today. My lawyer and I will sue them. I managed to speak to Lissner who told me, ‘Roberto, I care for you. But I cannot avoid it.’ So it means that Lissner is being pushed by somebody else to ban me.”
“Zeffirelli disappointed me because he refused to talk to me. And he also let a friend of mine know that he is seriously considering of firing me from his La Traviata in Rome. A few hours earlier, Zeffirelli told me that I was the best, and now, in my most difficult moment, he turns his back on me.”
“Zeffirelli says to be a ‘Callas fan’. But I ask you, how many times did Callas personally do these things?”
“And Sunday night, I could not go on singing. My throat was closed-off. I couldn’t even speak a sound. Why didn’t they allow me some time to recover the way that they did with Domingo many years ago? He left the stage and came back after a full hour. Chailly has no power.”
Oh MY Fu*^*&ng GOD.
It's over for Alagna! All hell is about to break loose now.

I just can't thank you enough for all your work on this subject.... The BREAKING NEWS gets more shocking each time, I could hardly read this last one.
Thanks again for sharing everything!

The only way this could get even more dramatic is if someone turned up dead. (Which I wouldn't be surprised if that does indeed happen).
Opera Chic, you've been my main news source the past few days!

I know...I don't know how it can get any worse. Wait, I don't want to imagine that it can get any worse!
Thanks to you all for the kind words. I'm happy to provide translations and leads for all of the news that is currently going down././

This is just so damned sad to watch a career self destruct. He was so very good in his early career. Others have been booed at La Scala and didn't walk out. There are probably at least three more sides to the story and thank you for keeping us updated--brava diva!

**takes a deep bow and thanks all the kind fans**

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!
You know, I've been really enjoying this scandal - reading the articles, watching the interviews, checking out your saucy blog - righ up to this point.
I felt a bit sorry for Alagna - I've always really liked his singing - but as there has been trouble with him and Gheorghiu before, and with all those rumours, a scandal somehow seemed inevitable. And he deserved it - in a way - for being rash, and vain and plain silly - even if the reactions of the media and the public were not entirely fair and would drive any star mad.
As I said, it was fun.
But after this update I just feel it's terrible. There is one brilliant career going down for nothing. Whatever Alagna did, for whatever reason, he did not deserve to be shunned like this. Isn't it strange that absolutely no one publicly stood up for him? After all, we have seen far worse behaviour from stars on stage and off it...

As to why no one has stood up for him (for now), I would assume most people will not take a position in defense of extremely unprofessional and idiotic behaviour. He really should come to his senses, apologize, and cut his losses at this point.

It's true, I wish I could do something. I've always loved him, (and admit to harbouring a large crush on him before he got sick)
I just want it all to end, and maybe once he THINKS about what he really needs to say to explain himself (and there's a lot of explaining to do) than maybe everyone can start doing something more productive, like mending the ties this has all caused.
However, I'm grateful to Opera Chic for keeping us updated as I would rather know what's happenenig than be in the dark.
It's all such a shame...

If this moment is mirrored in any opera it would have to be the end of the brindisi in Macbeth. The man is deserted by everyone after his rants... but most acidly denounced by his Lady; 'Vergogna Signor'.

Yeah, I feel pretty terrible for him now. I imagine him unpacking from his suitcase right now the crystal ashtrays, plush somma bathrobes, and heading-out to Di Per Di (one of our supermarket chains here) to stock-up on groceries (no more $$room-service$$).
No seriously, he gets like 80K for each recital or something...I'm comforted by the fact he can at least pay this hotel bill unfettered.
But how much must have that sucked to show-up at La Scala for rehearsal, only to have your a$$ thrown-out by security? How humbling. How leveling. How sad.
ALAGNA DONT CRAY!!! ;______;
